First, I am filled with gratitude for the many beautiful messages I have received in response to my making it known that I will not run for office in 2014. Your expressions of appreciation for my work over the years mean so very much to me.

Meanwhile, I'm going to be continuing that work for the next two years, and after that I will continue to be very involved in Columbia, this "Garden for growing people" that our beloved Jim Rouse created for us.

Organic Food

As you are well aware, there are many special attributes of this legislative district that I represent; not least among them is the strong interest in and devotion to organic food. So the article below caught my eye. I have forwarded it to Dr. Josh Sharfstein, the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, asking him to let me know if the troubling reports in the article are showing up in Maryland. I will let you know his response.

Is organic food worth it? Our view: The label suggests 'healthier' but a new study says otherwise,0,940610.story

Some Additional Budget Factors for 2013

There will be innumerable factors to consider. Two of them are below. Believe it or not, it is not entirely impossible that we will even consider "bailing out yachts."

Bailing out yachts? Our view: Reducing Maryland's excise tax on boats to aid struggling dealers and marinas may sound appealing, but it doesn't pass inspection,0,4752002.story

Maryland surplus spurs debate: Did lawmakers need to raise taxes?
